Project 2025 is terrifying | Sheneman

With the election just days away I thought it might be a good time to revisit Project 2025 and focus on a few of the horrifying proposals that lay within the pages of this execrable document.
First, what in the hell is Project 2025? That’s easy, Project 2025 is the scout’s guide to turning the federal government into MAGA HQ. It’s a 900-page how-to produced by The Heritage Foundation — along with many members of the Trump administration — that lays out a plan to transform the federal government into something resembling a right wing paramilitary force.
All the hits are here: crackdowns on free speech, voter suppression, surveillance out the wazoo, and, of course, gutting abortion access. Throw in some rollbacks on LGBTQ rights and a quick rewrite of American history in the classroom and you have Project 2025 in a nutshell. I just made it sound like a fascism wishlist, and it is, but the devil is in the details. In this case, those details are step-by-step plans on how to dismantle the government and civil service and turn them into extensions of the Republican Party.

Project 2025 is a remarkable document, not just for the scope and scale of what it’s looking to accomplish, but for the fact that they felt comfortable writing it down. In days gone by, detailing your master plan to turn the nation into a bible study group would have been considered bad politics, but not anymore. Trump has created a permission structure that allows conservative groups to openly and publicly be their worst selves.
Trump himself claims he’s never heard of Project 2025 or The Heritage Foundation, but he cannot dodge the blowback, given that 140 members of his administration had a hand in the plan. Some of the conspiracy bots and Russian-funded right wing influencers have even gone so far as to suggest that the whole thing is a left wing plot, but that’s just more tin foil hat nonsense to muddy the waters. Despite it’s goofy code name, Project 2025 is very real.
